Fire Door Self Closer

3 Vital Additions For Fire Doors Provided By FireCare Solutions

More often than not, a building conforming to Building Regulation fire protection codes will need to be sectioned into fire proof area’s via fire doors in order to prevent the fire spreading from one area to another. In addition to the role of acting as a barrier to stop fire from engulfing other areas of a building, the second noteworthy function of these doors is to offer a means of escape in case of an emergency. As you probably figured it out, while the first role can be accomplished when the door is locked, the second one is achieved when the door is opened.

We at FireCare Solutions are aware of the fact that when it comes to fire doors there is no one size fits all, as each building has its own restrictions and limitations in terms of fire safety. Consequentially, we can only offer you an effective fire door protection solution after inspection of your building office or facility and evaluate the best positioning and rating to ensure your building is a safe as it needs to be to protect your assets and personnel.

An effective fire door self closer

Fire doors have to integrate a mechanical method of self-closing this gadget that makes sure the door closes in case of a fire emergency. We use a number of propriety closers but regularly install the Dorguard fire door self-closer due to the following reasons:

It complies with the latest codes:-  BN ES 1155:1997, BS 7273-4 category B and BS5839-1:2002.

  • Dorguard is programmed to automatically close the door after a fire alarm of 65 decibels (or higher) plays the specific sound for more than 14 seconds.
  • It has an adjusted sensibility and hence, the device can be set to work effectively even in loud environments.
  • It integrates failsafe technology.
  • It is a wireless unit that can be installed under the fire door in less than 5 minutes.

Intumescent Strips

In order to prevent fire, toxic fumes and smoke from spreading through a building, it is a requirement to have Intumescent Strips integrated into the fire doors. The strips are especially designed to increase in volume and act as an impermeable barrier against fire and smoke as soon as the temperature around the door gets to a specific point.  Intumescent Strips can save your life, they are generally viewed as a safety net because they prevent fire/smoke from entering an area and can keep the air safe to breathe for up to an hour. In other words, enough time for the rescue teams to reach you and get you out of the building.

Cold smoke seals

It is important to note that during fires, the vast majority of lives are not claimed by the blaze, but rather by the smoke and abnormally high amounts of carbon monoxide in the air. In general, because the role of cold smoke strips is to reduce the amount of smoke getting into or out of a room. It is advisable to use the cold smoke seals in combination with Intumescent Strips.
